Hanoi - Viet Nam
12 to 15 October 2013
A busy, complex and overcrowded city, filled with tourists and locals all trying to make something of their time in Hanoi. It makes sense.
Hanoi Royal View Hotel
Where does one start!
Not somewhere we'd ever stay again and now worth the money!
The room was dark and dingy! Towels were past their used date, basically falling to bits! Sheets and pillow cases stained and covered in hair, not ours! Room safe didn't work and the walls were covered in some substance
Breakfast was pretty basic not like the photos shows! Staff seemed reluctant to replenish! The coffee was awful far too sweet!
Worst of it was the toaster was full of cockroaches only noted on the last day
We booked two day trips! The first being to Halong Bay, this was great! Only because we had a super guide, named Hai and met some lovely people! Well worth the day and good food was prepared for us! A bargain at $45 each
So our city tour we expected similar! To our amazement the guide could hardly speak English at all and it turns out he was not even a registered tour guide but a staff member from the hotel! Granted he tried and even took us to a nice restaurant for lunch but as a guide forgot it and the cost of $90 each was a rip off
Saving graces were the laptop in the room and then the fabulous restaurant attended twice it was so good called the GreenTangerine (a must) and only 3mins from this hotel
Boutique hotel, sorry but no, not at all!!

Sheraton Hanoi Hotel
We were recommended this hotel by the tourist information based at Ha Noi - Noi Bai Airport, as we were grounded due to the typhoon at Hoi An
Well we loved this hotel and moreover as we were upgraded at check in from a double room, to a grand deluxe room!
We enjoyed the restaurant on the ground floor and opted for the $40 per person buffet, including water, soft drinks and draft beer. The array of choice was amazing and it catered to everyone's needs! Absolutely great value! It further gave 25% off to guests of the hotel
The breakfast (free) was just as good and the hotel offered Tupperware to those guests with a early checkout! This was a brilliant touch.
It was a fantastic nights stay in a luxurious hotel! Also at a reasonable price too!
Only downfall was wifi for the night was limited to the lobby
Green Tangerine
We found this restaurant by chance as it was less than 3 minutes walk from our hotel.
Well have to say the food here was amazing and very well presented. The whole experience for us both was fantastic. We enjoyed everything about this establishment, the starters, the main courses and the deserts.
Have to say we thoroughly enjoyed this that we attended here twice it was that good and very reasonably priced.
You will not be disappointed with this fantastic restaurant
